Notice of Annual General Meeting
Members of the Kehilla are hereby notified of the annual general
meeting of Kehillat Ahavat Tzion, which will take place on Motzei
Shabbat Parshat Toldot (2 Kislev, 29 November) in the
shul.
The meeting is open to all members of the Kehilla; a list of members
accompanies this notice.
The meeting will begin as soon as possible after 20:30 once a quorum of
members is present (one quarter of the total membership).
Please make every effort to attend the meeting.
Agenda
The agenda for the meeting will be as follows:
- Report by a member of the
vaad of activities during the
previous year. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
- Takanon. In light
of a small number of comments
made by the Registrar of Amutot, a need has arisen to amend the takanon
and to obtain the membership's approval of the revised
version. Please note that the revisions reflect not only the changes requested by the Registrar, but also additional changes recommended by the vaad; see separate notice in this regard. The revised takanon is attached, in English and
Hebrew, in both cases with the changes shown marked. Copies
will also be available in the shul.
Comments are invited from all members. Please submit all
comments to Keith Shaw at kattakanon@gmail.com,
or by phone to 052-864-5187, by Monday, 12
Marcheshvan (10 November).
All comments will be reviewed and responded to by the vaad, and such
correspondence will be published to the membership, subject to the
agreement of the member submitting the comments. After such
publication, there will be a further short period for members to
comment on the published correspondence. A final version of
the revised takanon will then be circulated, in advance of the meeting.
At the meeting, the membership will be asked to approve or reject the
revised takanon (in light of the opportunities provided earlier for
comments to be submitted, there will not be further discussion at the
meeting of specific clauses in or issues relating to the takanon, but
just a vote).
- Election of vaad (seven
people), audit committee (two people),
treasurer (one person) and head gabbai (one person) for 5769.
Members are hereby invited to
submit their candidacy for these
positions, which must be communicated to Ross Fleischman, either
by
phone to 052-609-3375 or by e-mail to vaad@ahavat-tzion.com, by Sunday,
18 Marcheshvan (16 November).
If the number of candidates for any such positions exceeds the number
of positions which are to be filled, then an election by secret ballot
will be held, save that if there are eight candidates for the vaad, the
vaad will have the discretion to decide that the new vaad shall consist
of all the applying candidates. The list of candidates will
be publicised following the last date for the submission of candidacy.
- "Vatikin" minyanim on
Rosh Hashana,
Yom Kippur and Simchat Torah. Following discussions, the vaad
has decided to bring this issue to the membership. Prior to
the meeting, there will be circulated to the membership two "position
papers", one in favour of the holding of such minyanim and one against,
and at the meeting there will be an opportunity for members to express
their views. The membership will then be asked to vote (by
way of separate votes) on whether or not they would be in favour of the
holding of a "vatikin" minyan on each of Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and
Simchat Torah. A favourable majority of above 50% of those
voting will be needed in order to add any minyan.
How to vote
Methods of voting for all of 2) to 4) above will be as follows:
- Personal
attendance at the
meeting. We would ask that wherever possible, members vote by
way of this method. Voting slips will be provided at the
meeting. The ballot box will remain open for an hour after
the close of the meeting in order to enable spouses who could not
attend the meeting to vote.
- Written
vote. Members who
know in advance that they will be unable to attend the meeting will be
able to request voting slips, from Keith Shaw at keith.a.shaw@gmail.com
or by phone to 052-864-5187. Such slips will need to be
completed, signed by the member in question, and returned to Ross
Fleischmann prior to the meeting either in person or by e-mail
(scanned) to vaad@ahavat-tzion.com.
It will also be possible
to arrange for completed and signed slips to be delivered on behalf of
the member in question (including by their spouse) to Ross Fleischmann
at the meeting, during the time that the ballot box is open.
- E-mail.
Members who both
know in advance that they will be unable to attend the meeting and that
they will be unable to return a written vote will be able to vote by
e-mail, by completing voting slips which may be obtained from Keith
Shaw as above, printing their name on the slip, and returning the slip
as an attachment, to vaad@ahavat-tzion.com.
A vote by this
method must be received prior to the start of the meeting.
We would request that members only vote by way of options b) or c) as a
fallback if they are unable to attend the meeting, and not as a first
preference, and that a written vote be used in preference to e-mail.
Please note that all members individually have voting rights (ie
spouses vote separately), but that spouses will not be able to vote on
behalf of each other (ie other than by delivering a written vote).
Please note further that in order for the revised version of the
takanon to be approved, approval must be received of a majority of the
total
membership (not just of those voting). It is therefore
crucial that as many people as possible cast their vote.
Any questions concerning methods of voting should be addressed to Keith
Shaw at the above contact details.
Additional agenda items
Members are also invited to submit to the vaad suggestions for items
for inclusion in the agenda, by Sunday, 18
Marcheshvan (16
November). The vaad will consider the inclusion of such
items
either as part of its presentation or as a separate agenda item.
We look forward to seeing you all at the AGM.
